When choosing our name we were inspired by Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi - known as Donatello - the renowned Italian sculptor of the Renaissance period and one of history’s most visionary artists.

Coming from the Italian and Latin word for “a gift” (donum), the name Donato was once bestowed upon individuals seen as exceptional - people who brought light, talent, and meaning to their communities.

Over the centuries, it became associated with excellence in the arts, literature, and academia. Many individuals bearing this name left a significant mark in various fields, including art, literature, and academia - such as Donatello.

Today, it continues to symbolise the joy and talent one brings into the world - fitting for a platform designed to support and elevate creative individuals.

Our founder is both a tech expert and an artist, who began by selling handmade work through platforms like Etsy, before realising the limitations and frustrations many creatives face.
